A Makeup Shake-up

If you’ve been considering swapping your cosmetics for vegan and cruelty-free alternatives, then you’re probably aware that it can prove problematic to determine which products contain animal ingredients and/or have been tested on animals.

Fear not, as this guide will explain the benefits of wearing vegan and cruelty-free makeup, and clear away the confusion involved when selecting the perfect products for you.

Why should I wear vegan or cruelty-free makeup?

These cosmetics provide some fantastic benefits that all makeup enthusiasts can enjoy. They are free from harsh ingredients, favouring plant and mineral-based alternatives instead, so they are wonderful for your skin and general physical health.

Not only will your body reap the rewards, but so too will your conscious. If you’re a lover of animals then rejoice and feel safe in the knowledge that vegan and cruelty-free makeup products do not use any animal-derived ingredients, nor are they tested on animals.

How do I know which products are Vegan or Cruelty-Free?

Vegan and cruelty-free makeup will have recognisable logos to certify whether they meet the strict vegan and cruelty-free criteria, such as the internationally recognised Vegan Society logo, and the leaping bunny logo.

Most people would assume that if a product is vegan it must also be cruelty-free. However, you need to be careful, as makeup that is labelled “Vegan” does not necessarily mean it is (and vice versa).

Vegan products do not contain any animal-based ingredients or animal by-products, such as the animal-derived ingredient squalene is often used in lipsticks. Makeup products that are made without any animal testing whatsoever, throughout the creation and production stages, are defined as cruelty-free.

Rewarding Beauty

It is possible to blend beauty with your values, and your endeavours will not go unrewarded as you’ll be wearing non-toxic and ethical products that will make you feel superb inside and out.
