Where To Eat Vegan: London Edition

The days of wondering where to find the best vegan eats in London are over. As a full-time Londoner and full-time vegan, I have scoped out some of the top spots to find delicious plant-based food across the city. From pop-up kitchens to stylish restaurants, there is something for everyone. So, whether you’re are a local or a tourist, you can now easily navigate your way around the capital’s vegan scene.

For your plant-based burger fix, with a to-die-for soya milkshake on the side: The Vurger Co., Shoreditch and Canary Wharf

The Vurger Co. has been getting great reviews across the board since beginning in 2016. In under three years, they have now opened two restaurants in Shoreditch and Canary Wharf, serving their “soul satisfying” vegan burgers. Even their ‘Classic’ is far from boring, mixing black bean, chargrilled red pepper and chickpea into a corn patty, dripping with vegan cheese and the house burger sauce. Their mouth-watering shakes, including flavours such as Orea, banana caramel and Biscoff, are to-die for and their sides should also not be missed, with the pesto mac n cheese a personal favourite.

For when you can’t decide between avocado pesto pasta and crispy tofu fish n’ chips: by CHLOE., Convent Garden and Tower Bridge

An Instagram hotspot with their aesthetically pleasing interior, by CHLOE. food is more than just photogenic. With a range of options for brunch, lunch and on the-go, you will find yourself spoilt for choice. They even have house-made pupcakes and organic dog bones for your canine companions. Leading by example, their menu also clearly labels all allergens in every meal, so there is no second guessing what is in the food you’re going to be eating!

For the best vegan döner kebab in London: What The Pitta, Shoreditch, Camden and Croydon

The plant-based diet not only has huge health benefits but also contributes to improving our environmental impact on the planet. Both of these reasons are outlined in What The Pitta’s mission, as they encourage people to go ‘Meat Free More Often’. Their vegan döner is made from plant-based alternatives and will make you never crave a classic kebab again. You can find both their Shoreditch and Croydon kitchens located in Boxpark, a collective of pop-up food stalls, so you can even bring along your non-vegan friends (although I’m sure they’ll want to try your döner too).

For a menu full of hearty vegan (and vegetarian) food and an extensive selection of sides: Mildreds, Soho, Camden, Kings Cross and Dalston.

“If you’re a vegetarian – go! If you’re a vegan – go! If you like food – go! Mildreds is like a home from home.” Mildreds claim they’re like a home from home, and they’re not wrong. Serving internationally inspired cuisine, their menu has a huge range of freshly made starters, larger plates and puddings. With a few vegetarian only dishes, this restaurant is a vegan dream and it is refreshing to finally look at a menu and find that you can eat at least 90% of the food.

For the closest thing to fried chicken you can find: Temple of Seitan, Camden and Hackney

Forget fast food chains when you can get chick’n fillets, wings and popcorn bites from Temple of Seitan. This spot might be a guilty pleasure, but with their 100% plant-based menu, you can munch away guilt-free. It might be a give-away in their name, but their vegan alternative of choice is the ‘wheat meat’ seitan. Their chick’n and ¼ pound patty options even look so realistic that they are sure to curb any cravings you might have.

For a selection of homemade food, where you pay by weight: Tibits, Mayfair and Southwark

The restaurant mainly works on a walk-in basis, where you can find sandwiches and baked goods at the counter, as well as helping yourself to the many different salads, hot dishes and desserts at the ‘food boat’. On most days, Tibits serves at least 80% plant-based options, but if that isn’t enough, every Tuesday, they make 100% of the food in their ‘food boat’ vegan. This is a great easy option that gives you plenty of options and the freedom to choose your portion size too!

For when you can’t decide where to eat: Vegan Nights, Shoreditch

Vegan Nights launched in 2017 and has been creating a buzz in the plant-based scene ever since. Hosted most months on the infamous Brick Lane in Shoreditch, this night infuses music, drinks and of course, an amazing range of vegan street food. If you can’t make it to one of the Vegan Nights events, the outdoor-indoor food court in Shoreditch is also home to House of Vegan, a weekly daytime marketplace.
